The BISD Education Foundation was started out of the desire to help our students achieve more, and have the tools necessary to do so. The steering committee was formed over 15 years ago, and in 2015 the Foundation became an official 501 (c)3 organization. Committed community members pledge to help the Foundation for the first five years, a grant was received for start-up, and the rest is history!
Since 2006, the Foundation has awarded over $450,000 in grants to teachers at every campus in the district. Even though technology has always been a high priority for grant requests, we have also funded projects like the outdoor classroom at the high school, a rain collection system to reuse for field irrigation, and robotic kits for elementary and middle school students.

The grants have changed with the constant evolution of our culture, but the Foundation has stayed true to the desire to fund innovative teaching grants. We have funded some amazing grants that have helped our students and community grow and improve.

The school district has four Core Values:
|
The mobile library is the product of a grant that allows students to access books throughout the summer. The Lego League grant was funded at Alkek several years ago and has grown, becoming a successful and innovative program that will continue for years to come. In addition, one of the first grants the Education Foundation funded was a community book club program at the middle school. While the grant helped students with literacy and book appreciation, it also reached further into the community and helped two parents to improve their reading proficiency as well.
